          Id prefer you give us a better picture of the whole plant complete with the new shoot before you rip it off.
          Often different leaves denotes a sucker.

                I didn't see the earlier picture.
                Ok so I'm out on this one, looks like it could be just new growth.

                @Lindsey244 as you say its growing in the wrong direction remove it and also prune the dead part of the other short cane just above the bud joint and you should get a new growth which will grow in the right direction:smile:

                  @wiseowl i did wonder what to do with that bit. My partner hates roses and doesn’t want them when we move but I’m absolutely having some :smile: and I’m going to get everything right this time and make them perfect
