Orchid plant name

I was given this plant from a friend and dont know the name, can anyone tell me please? and can it be cloned?

Hi @lowrider69 , it's a Flamingo plant, Anthurium. A very nice gift from your friend, it looks really good

It can be propagated from cuttings or by dividing the plant. Propagation is easiest in the spring- good luck! Here are a couple of links for care and propagation:

Oooow!!! Thanks @Selleri ....this is of great interest to me as well. One of our sons has one and so does one of my sisters too....both know that I'm eyeing their plants up!!!!
Surely neither of them will miss a titchy bit.....will they.

My Orchids (Phalaenopsis and Dendrobium) in fact came from local Morrisons who have very good and reasonably priced plants. If you have Morrisons nearby, take a look what they have. Autumn is a good season to buy Orchids, many are now in flower and will usually keep flowering well past Christmas.

Marks&Spencers, John Lewis, Waitrose and the like also sell Orchids online, but the prices are rather salty to my taste.

 

I don't think Anthurium is actually an Orchid, but possibly likes similar growing conditions.

I agree, there are lots of reasonably cheap orchids available in supermarkets these days.

Flamingo Flower. Latin name, "Anthurium"

What exactly are these weird, beautiful plants? While they may be similar, Anthuriums and orchids are not the same. Anthuriums are members of the Araceae family, which is distinct from the Orchidaceae or orchids. The Anthurium genus contains a huge range of species, and many do have a lot in common with orchids.

 

I would have said Anthuriums are some kind of Arum, judging by the flower, growing conditions could well be similar to some orchids, but I think botanically they are very different.

 

For decades the main Anthurium available as a house plant was Anthurium Scherzerianum commonly known as Piggy Tails. Now with genetic engineering (tampering?) and massed production by tissue culture, Anthurium Andreanum has been developed into a plant much smaller and capable of tolerating drier conditions than the original plants could. There are now dozens of modern hybrids in all sorts of colours.
Division isn't all that easy, trying to cut or pull an offset from the parent plant needs to be done carefully and best in Spring.

 

I bought one of these about 8 or 9 years ago and have been able to separate it into four different plants. Three of them are growing nicely but the other one is spindly and keeps falling over. However, even though it had flowers when I bought it, it has never flowered since. I've done everything suggested on the internet and in books but to no avail.
