hibiscus bare root plant care through the winter

    I have a bare root Hibiscus just delivered and have set in a pot .I would like advice on how to keep it through the winter.Thank you.Carolla1

    What type of hibiscus is it.... there are hardy types and tender ones!

    Carolla, pot it up and put it in a sheltered position. Preferably a greenhouse, shed or garage.:gnthb:

    If it's the tropical hibiscus rosa sinensis place it in a cool, dark room with temperatures of 40-45F. Check the soil periodically to make sure it doesn’t totally dry out. When the top 2-3 inches are dry, water just enough to moisten the soil and keep the plant from dying.
    If it's a hardy hibiscus rosa syriacus treat it as David says for the first winter once established it will overwinter outside,they are one of the latest shrubs to come into leaf so don't think it has died it can be as late as June.

    Thanks David for advice on Hibiscus I will let you know how I get on with it after the winter.
    Just found out how to retrieve the answers.still learning. carolla.

    Quercus glad to hear from you .It is a hardy Hibiscus but I didnt know I had to keep it so sheltered in the winter .Ihave been and put some fleece round it so I will hope for the best.Sorry its taken me so long but have just found how to get the answers.Iwill let you know if it survives. Thank you Carolla.

    Dont forget to collect seeds for multiplication. A friend brought a loads of self seeded ones from his garden in Switzerland !!!
