I have memories of Penang and Butterworth but only though a holiday visit in '85 not forces or work. I did a fantastic Paragliding 'flight' along Batu Feringhi beach (sp?).:gnthb:
Robert, it was strange in Singapore (same holiday) seeing artificial snow, christmas trees and santas everywhere in November, they started early as well!, in a predominantly Muslim country. I think they were aimed at the cruise trade.

Penang has changed a lot since my time. The West coast of the island used to be miles of tropical palm lined natural beach with the odd crocodile farm amongst the palms. I understand its all hotels now. Such a shame.

Thank you for the photo of the RAF Rescue Wessex. I got to fly in one of these Superb machines while serving in the Territorial Army after saying to the SSM, "I would Love to go up in a helicopter." An hour later, I was in the machine and Boy, What an experience, going on to fly in a Puma and Chinook years later.

I keep posting my memories on http://goldenoldie.proboards100.com and where anybody is welcome to join in, but as yet to add this memory on.

Sis, was that in Wales before we went to Canada when I was two and you three? Ye, gads, I look like a tub of lard .... well. we were all 'lardies' .... our beautiful mother born at 14 lbs, you at 12 and me at 10.5 .... we did get smaller as we progressed .... :hehe: All born natural childbirth in the same bed up on the Graig ... that's the Welsh for you ..... :help:

.... those were the days my friend ... we thought they'd never end ..... they did with me ..... as your son was 8.5 was he?

You are so Mammy, and me Popa ... xx

I'm moving this conversation privately because I don't believe I was 4 or 5 then .... and certainly not you 15 months older ..... maybe it was a visit from Canada...... ????

Edit ... okay, we've since 'spoken' and you say it was May 1951 ... so I was just three and you say the pic was taken in NY but I thought we still lived in Canada then .... maybe we were on a 'reccie' to move to the States from Canada? Whatever, they were lovely times ...... :luv: xx

I was reminded of another fabulous memory today when I saw the A4 class Steam locomotive 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley steam along the rails of East Anglia. :gnthb:

I had the Tremendous pleasure to have worked behind this same locomotive as a Guard on a Special Weekend back in 1995. Further details and a picture from today can be found on http://goldenoldie.proboards100.com and where you are all welcome to join and post your memories from decades long ago. :gnthb:
