    Hi,

I'm very new to gardening - just wondered if somebody could advise?

We've got a small (55ft by about 8 ft) lawn - which has patches of dead grass where weedkiller was put down. I'm not sure how and when to try to rectify this - can I do it with grass seed, or will it need to be returfed? When would be the best time to do this?

    Thanks!

In spring, and with seed if it`s only a few patches. Turf if it`s a lot.

    "where weedkiller was put down"

What sort of weed killer? If it was Sodium Chlorate nothing will grow there for a long time. If it was a contact-only herbicide, like Glyphosphate/Roundup then do as Lollipop describes

Hi I have read your plea for help. What you need to do is 1) rake the patch 2) get a garden fork and make some holes for any rain/water to reach the roots of the grass. Then water the patches for a 3 times a week for 3 weeks regardless of any rain. The pus on a small amount of feed by hand is ok (even house plant feed on the patch) this will tell the grass it is time to recover.

    Any further problems email me.

Hmm.... Not the expert method I would suggest.

If the grass has been killed off in patches then making holes and adding water will leave muddy areas..... you need to ree seed the bare areas!!!

My method asuming roundup or a contact weedkiller was used, would be to wait till spring then cut the lawn on a medium height setting, scratch up the bare areas or very lightly fork over and rake. Mix some seed up in a bucket with a handful of bagged sterile top soil and spread this over the bare areas.

A few weeks and it will germinate, Next couple of cuts on a hight setting, to let the new seeded areas establish.
