    Hi,
I planted delphinium seeds (pacific blue) in March, only one survived. It was in a sunny spot, but didn't do much all summer long.
It kept putting sprouts up but they didn't get taller, and new smaller ones grew underneath.
Anyway, upshot is its now about 2inches high, with loads of leaves (and new ones growing all the time)
So i'd class it as very much a baby plant, and am worried about it in the winter.
I don't have a greenhouse - should I pot it and bring indoors over winter, or just leave it to it and see what happens?
    Thanks for any advice,
    Polly

I've got three baby delphs (germinated from seed) in my unheated greenhouse. They seem to be okay, but not putting on any growth at the moment, not that I expect them to in winter. I just give them a dribble of water from time to time if their compost looks dry. They are Pacific Hybrids. I'll see how they look come Spring, and hopefully pot them on.

Thanks for your replies guys - have left it where it is. Some leaves have gone a little yellowy - not sure if this would be the almost frosts we've had where I live or needing fertiliser (as that excellent Mrs Greenfingers suggests - thanks for link!) I'll pop some food in for it and see how it comes on.

    Thanks again,

    Polly

I wouldn't feed them in the winter - it might make them put on soft top growth. If they are big enough they may die right down, and then come back into growth in the Spring (as they will when they are planted in the soil). Don't let them get wet ... just moist will be plenty enough through the Winter, and not too often - I doubt they will need watering more than once a week.

Think about a few slug pellets round it when it gets out of bed in the spring. Slugs love them - Delphiniums I mean :D
