    To avoid that, I adjust my mirrors down so that I don't take chunks out of my wheels when reverse parking ....... Just to be on the safe side :D

    You have to put your brain into gear Pete before you do anything. My drivers never failed on parellel parking but failed on stupid things like not looking in the mirror or not looking round before moving off. It is nothing to do with the size of the car.

    That looks italian to me, I think French cars have yellow plates (I may be wrong).
    Parking a car in an italian town can drive people to histeric fits, so I am not surprised.

    My husband is a devil parking his huge Citroen Jumper anywhere, but once I toppled over with laughing so hard, we were at IKEA in a crowded day, only a small place to park, he manovered around for ages to fit it in, while some guys all around stood and shook their heads in a "You will never get it in" sort of way (Italians can be as useless as that, I swear). Well, he did get it in, straight as a pin, perfect, and made a smug face and was opening the door and getting out, when the car started to slid out of the parking space under his foot. He had not pulled the hand brake! That was a success with the public! :D

    PS Oh, as for me, I am a danger to myself and anybody else in a car,and it is just a mercy to the world that my trip to Brittany and the atlantic coast all the way down to Portugal will be by FEET.

    Was just shutting down and thought I'd clarify a couple of things I said earlier ....

    In the US I passed my tests in South Carolina and Alabama in 1967 .... before some of you were born I think. Parallel parking was great fun in a 6-7 litre engined 20-22 foot vehicle. I had speedboats and used to pull them behind these monstrosities on trailers which I had to back up, which was no mean feat, especially when you're only 5'2" and I always did and still do drive barefoot .... a bad Southern habit I think.

    Just queried t'other half .... we both took our UK driving tests in 1978 in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire and neither of us had to parallel park but did do the three-point turns and reverse around a corner .... great fun in a van ..... :gnthb:

    Perhaps things have changed over the years, ie, tests getting more strict to conform with EU regs? :scratch:

    For the most part I'll say Brit drivers are great, Spanish are horrendous and Portuguese much to be desired ..... but I do think the British driving test is all about teaching you how to pass the test .... NOT how to drive a car sadly.

    Who remembers the old black & white public information tv advert with Reginald Molehusband?

    "This is the story of Reginald Molehusband, married, two children, whose reverse parking was a public danger. People came from miles just to see it. Bets were laid on his performance. What he managed to miss at the back, he was sure to make up for at the front. Bus drivers and taxis changed their routes to avoid him. Until the day that Reginald Molehusband did it right. Not too close, far enough forward... come on Reginald... and reverse in slowly... come on.... and watching traffic... and park perfectly! Well done Reginald Molehusband, the safest parker in town. "

    Think thats true with most tests/exams etc.
    You always learn more after you pass.

    But anyway, when the L drivers come round here doing their reverse parking, they tend to only have one parked car and reverse in behind it.
    Cheating just a bit I think.:scratch::)
