Since publication should it be an issue for members employers?

Like it or lump it the BNP is a legal party and therefore although I would never join it due to a severe distaste for a proportion of its policy's those who are members should not have their jobs threatened.

One of my customers and a good friend has been left in a very unfortunate employment position since the lists publication and risks losing his job, to me this is wrong.

    Totally agree Paul.

As far as I know its not an illegal party and as such you should be able to be a member, what ever your job.

This is the PC brigade getting their own way yet again.

Which inturn might encourage others to join the BNP

It does sound very dodgy. On the other hand, several organisations have stipulation that membership of the BNP is frowned upon (a whole other debate in itself) so there must be a lot of embarassment around. And whilst I find Jacqui Smith an abomination upon mankind, I agree with her when she said no one should be embarassed by what political party they belong to.

But still sounds like a big, big set up. Surely this government wouldn't do something like that?? Would they???

The government aren`t above anything. But I was thinking more closer to home so to speak. The whole immigration debate has been put on a simmer whilst we all panic about the global economy, so what better way to attract attention back to themselves?

What are it's policies ? I have no desire to look them up.

Are membership lists not publicly available from other parties ?

I can't believe anyone would be naive enough to think that membership of the BNP would be good for their personal or professional life.

If I was a Labour or Conservative party member, would my employer be able to sack me for that reason only?

    Somehow I dont think so.

BM, too many policy's to list, just think farr right nationalist ie pro monarchy, Pro capital punishment, pro corporal punishment, Increased spending on military, anti immigration etc longer prison terms, many others some common sense some very unnsavoury.

Never really bothered researching them myself either as I'm totally opposed to the death penalty, dislike the party leadership and feel that almost all the policys fail to stand up to scrutiny.

All that said i have no isue with anyone belonging to them.

    Madness.

I wonder if the members took the BNP at 'doorstep' face value without bothering to look at their political origins. I imagine they might be surprised.

Most companies have an 'Appropriate Behaviour Policy' which covers the extracurricular. I imagine this could be used to include political activity.

Sadly a wholly flawed ideology, human nature would never allow it.

The rise of fascism started with "ordinary" citizens joining up, hoping these beliefs would cure the ills of the age, again without looking deeper at what they really believed in.

History is cyclical (eg, attacks on Jews across Europe is on the increase) but I hope this theory will be proven wrong.

Dont matter what they do, they cant stop people thinking.

And thats whats wrong with the country, everybodys thinking but scared to say.

Say what they are thinking, because of what others might think of them.

    Not a happy situation.
