I'm tidying up a neglected border, along a wall, and came across two of these plants. They have grown very tall and thin (they were hidden behind bushes). I'm not sure what they are. A couple of years ago I planted blackberry, gooseberry and currants along this wall but they did nothing. The other shrubs in front have grown up and hidden them. Before I pull them out can someone tell me what they are and whether they are worth saving?

    Thanks

Welcome to GC LivingInPuglia ... Puglia, Italy?

Could be a grapevine perhaps deposited by a bird.

Not a maple, Pete, look at how the leaves are growing. Definitely a vine and I agree with Dai and Sis about it being a grapevine.

    Welcome to GC, LIP.

Pete, I thought a toss up between grape or sycamore. As he`d planted fruit I opted for grape.:gnthb: I could still be wrong.:thumb:

The zig zag stem I admit says vine of some kind, but the leaf colour looks a bit dull, and the shape of the leaf not quite right for grape.
Not ones we grow here anyway.

But I didn't realise this was Italy.

    Just my ramblings.:)
