WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2022

Well I've been a busy today . Been garden centre today and got 15 bags of compost and collected a van full of plants for some clients and 3 little rodgersia for my bog garden. You can help yourself to pallets at this GC some I picked up 3 for rebuilding one side of the compost heap .

I've had to empty one bay and dismantle it, this compost is for next spring it doesn't look to bad to say but I'll give it another year to rot down. The black bin is what I've collected this year so far.


Bit of head scratching and getting wet its been a rotten muggy day . I've bang the three pallets together to make a larger bay , not the prettiest but it'll do ( old bay on the right ).


Had to load the old small bay up with compost I emptied earlier . I've half a fence panel for a lid.

 

Continued to harden off half hardy annuals and beans, sowed some fennel seed, potted up some ipomoea and Mina lobata. Watering in greenhouse, do need to get rid of some of the duplicate dahlias.
Compost heap turned at weekend is back up to temperature.

 

Planted up two more planters yesterday with ( hopefully if the labelling is correct ) white and red Pelargoniums, Bacopa, Cineraria.

 

Finally planted up a terracotta trough I bought last year with three very neglected trailing Pelargoniums which I drastically cut back. Tidied three Begonia (one Rex BeLeaf and two hybrids "Summerwings" and "Boliviensis") pots.

The Schlumbergera truncata is about 15 inches long now and I was going to cut it back ... but just read they can go to 36 inches so will hold off for the time being till it goes back up on its North facing ledge on The Baffa (Garden Room, Outdoor Living Room) along with the Pelargoniums and Begonias when the works are finished.

 

My good lady had a Peony to plant so after she was done I did some hand weeding in the vicinity. I also put some Sweet Pea "Sweetie" in a Flower Pouch to see how they do. The previous Flower Pouch is coming along nicely. I also planted up some Rudbeckia "All Sorts" in a large pot.
The CEO wanted some tidying up done so we edged the grass around her two trees and then I painted up some manhole covers(!) she wanted to be done.

 

Managed to mow the big lawn (I have 3) before I ran out of petrol. In retrospect, I should have bought a self propelled mower because pushing a mower through tall grass with several fractured vertebrae is just asking for trouble.

 

Please, what is a flower pouch?

I only finished chopping up some branches that I needed to remove from a tree because they were spreading out in front of my solar panels.

 

It is a strong pouch with holes cut in the front in which you can plant flowers.



You fill it with compost, plant through the holes, and then after a week, you suspend it from a couple of hooks.

 

I too wish I had opted for a self-propelled mower. At the time I felt it was something to go wrong.

 

Planning......

 

On Monday my son came in the evening with his wife & daughter & brought me a Peony! They told me it was to take the place of the one they had given me about 4 years ago but which died last year. Unfortunately it doesn't have a name.
.

 

I've edged and weeded round the cut out plots of young shrubs that are in my front lawns and fed them. The lawns are growing too quickly at the moment, the back one needs mowing again even though it was done last Friday. A job for tomorrow, weather permitting.

 

Nothing today, but a full on day of extreme weeding is on the cards for tomorrow

 

Spent several hours weeding, cutting back, moving and watering. I ache all over and have cuts, bruises and a thorn in my finger

 

Very little today as it was blowing a hooley. Pottered in the potting shed and scraped paint off the windows in the door.
