Hello, it could be soapwort..Saponaria officinalis. There's a pretty double-flowered form. Hope your space is big, though....it's pretty rampant!

Could be a salvia, but without an in focus larger photo impossible to be sure.
Does the foliage smell when bruised?

    Below is original pic ..trimmed.
I believe it shows 3 stems

Salvia flowers are normally in a tall stalk.
Mystery flowers are not...they are in a sort of cluster.

Saponaria officinalis rosea plena...it can be rampant..especially in damp places.

thank you for all the replies -- i think it is the saponaria thinggy -- cant provide a closer photo as its about 1,500 miles from my home --- rampant in shady undergrowth sounds just the ticket for the place i have in mind for it -- a propos: 'officinalis' in a plant's name usually means it has medicinal properties so i shall tootle off and research that

thanks again to all, i knew folks out there would know, cheers,

      karaman

Hi karaman, cavemen (and women) were reputed to use it in the shower  The common name, soapwort, says it all... If the leaves are rubbed under water, they make a soapy froth.
