Hi, Theres a few diferent types of marigolds, but all of them are suitable for growing in containers.

They are all summer flowering annuals (they last only one season) but quite easy to grow

It's probably too cold to get them started in winter, but in spring, once the worst of the winter is over, plant the seed, keep fairly well watered, but not too much, in a fairly sunny position.

If your winters are not frosty, you could try some now!

Good luck, and welcome to GF!

I thought they grew all year round there. Marigolds can be grown in the ground and in pots. I grow 100 or so every year (at work) in pots, the other 15/20,000 are grown for planting in the flower beds here in the parks.
Unless you are at high altitude you shouldn't have any trouble growing them only poor winter light may slow growth down.:)

Hi Meiji as long as you are in the low-lying areas of Pakistan you should be ok but if your from the chilly north then I should hold back until spring.

You can grow marigolds in pots or in the ground although sometimes they do tend to get a little bit leggy in pots (well mine did). Marigolds are one of the most easiest flowers to grow from seed and has so many variants & very pretty on the eye..... I just wish sometimes they smelt a little nicer. Hel.xxx.

Meiji - welcome to Gardeners Corner! Wow, all the way from Pakistan!

I love, love, love marigolds but they are the top delicacy for my slugs and snails and I get fed up seeing a garden full of stubs!

Wish you luck with your endeavours.

I always grow them in pots - usually as companion plants with tomatoes and/or nastutiums. It's best to plant them in the spring though.
