There is a lot of useful information on the main site , I check it for big financial decisions such as car buying, insurance renewals and switching phone and broadband.

Recently I have been trawling their forums which is hit and miss as you say. Some conflicting advice but mostly helpful. I was just reading about someone wanting to install a wood burner. It's something you mentioned earlier @Clueless 1 v2 and started me thinking about opening up our fireplace. The consensus is that they cost about the same as gas to run assuming you have to buy in wood. So not viable for us but might work for your situation with access to free logs.

We've kept the old original one in our small lounge and use to use it .We have one of those inflatable chimney balls inserted and have also temporarily sealed the front part to ensure there aren't any draughts. But we wouldn't close it up permanently as it's a handy standby to have. 20220830_144853.jpg

Looks very cosy in there Upsy, thanks for sharing. I was going to ask if it was an old house going by the lovely fireplace. Then I recalled your thread about updating and extending.

Taking a view about everything that is going on, there has to be a strong possibility that she is at least near the truth.

I'd say cheaper to run but obviously only one room. They kick out huge amounts of heat! I installed my own after quite a bit of research

Just a few days ago I cancelled our TV license in part because we haven't turned it on even for a year or two & even before that we rarely watched anything. We mainly kept it for the gkids but in the last 5 years they haven't been interested either. We had only the Free channels, no subscriptions like they have at their house!

I sometimes watch BBC on the computer but not often enough to warrant the expense of a licence we don't need. My wife watches programmes from Spain but even she cancelled her subscription some months ago.

I purchased a De-humidifier last year when we were decorating the entire house. On advice, I bought one with a Drying cycle for washing. It is brilliant. It dries all our washing in a few hours, even puts out a little heat and costs the same to run as a computer. The washing dries better than a tumble dryer (not as good as putting outside) and for much less money than a tumble dryer.
