Sleepers also come in concrete and iron, as well as wooden.

I do like old sleepers. A number of people have said to me that they were pleased I used old ones for the front of the house instead of new ones. Everyone likes the natural character of an old sleeper.

Mikkel, I did not know you could get them in concrete. It will be a bit heavy to handle. I do like the wooden ones.

I am not only a Rail Enthusiast, but an Ex-Railwayman and now well and truly into the Proposed Wisbech & March Bramley Line, and simply known as the 'Bramley Line' after the amount of those beautiful apples (even though they are cookers) that were at one time transported from the area. See www.bramleyline.org.uk for further details.

Concrete sleepers are most definately heavy, but then they are made to last longer than the wooden. I prefer to see the wooden though, because they have been around so long and let's face it, they are better to look at than concrete.
