I had not touched a guitar since the start of the pandemic (my brother and I used to have an afternoon jam once every two or three weeks) but I have started playing again albeit on my own.
Well, I say on my own but I have a DAW on my computer (Reaper) and I play along with tracks on that. I purchase tracks I want from Karaoke Versions and that gives me all the vocal and instrument tracks, as in a studio, and I can switch in and out instruments as I wish.
When I moved here last summer I gave all my guitars away, bar three, along with stands, music stands, microphones, cables etc and now I regret being so ruthless. I have had to buy a couple of cables and a cheap plastic stand for my music (I can never remember chord progressions).
I currently have two electric guitars and an acoustic guitar. One of the electrics was a 65th birthday/retirement gift from my other half and the other, which has never seen the light of day for 10 years, was purchased back in 1995 to use when I took lessons. It is ageing beautifully (I think, it certainly was when I put it away).
I am right into the Eagles, so I tend to play a lot of their stuff.
Anyway, after an awkward start when I struggled to remember chord shapes, never mind progressions, I am beginning to get back in the swing of things.

      Well, lets hear you then!
There is so much to admire about the riffs from the Eagles, makes me jealous I never found/made time to learn. I blame it on being left handed....more likely to being the 7 million other hobbies I try to make time for.

          Well you asked for it!
I am playing rhythm and bass guitar on this track, not both at the same time (though some bits it sounds like it).

I tried playing guitar for a short while, found out how difficult it actually is and quickly gave up.
I suppose being tone deaf and not having a musical bone in my body wasn't helping.
Sounds good to me. :blue thumb:

I do not know how I ever stuck to learning the guitar as a teenager. My first guitar was so cheap and virtually unplayable (I think it was made out of orange boxes). I think I only stuck to it because I was told guitars attract girls (all lies) and my mate was also learning and I occasionally got a shot of his good guitar.
Nowadays the cheapest electric guitar is very playable and ideal for a beginner. Acoustic guitars are another level of difficulty up from there.

Years ago I worked with Bobby, a chap who was always taking up new hobbies. They couldn't have children and hobbies was his outlet. He would buy the best equipment, go to classes and six months later move on to something else.
When anyone else started a new hobby they were always asked, "Is this a real hobby or a Bobby hobby?".

I've always wanted to be good at playing guitar. There's only ever been one obstacle to me achieving excellence. That is, I can't be bothered. I really wish I could, and when it comes up in conversation with my wife she urged me to just take the plunge and take lessons, because she knows I've always wanted to, and she's right, but I just never do it.

I took private lessons for a while about 25 years ago. I played old MacDonald had a farm, and the opening bars of Metallica's Enter Sandman. But my teacher disappeared owing lots of people money and I've never tried guitar since.

I was once able to play the opening bars of Hotel California.
Very slowly and with lots of finger fumbling.

When I was taking my second lot of lessons, back in 2012/13, I learned to play Hotel California including the solo (or at least a single guitar version) but now I wouldn't even know where to start with that bit.

I started playing chords and it is still my forte. I played bass guitar in a band many years ago but rhythm guitar is still my choice. I like fancy chord progressions. Perhaps I should take up jazz. Or play Beatles numbers.

Oh how I wish I’d kept it up ,I used to strum a bit of Dylan and Donavan.
Am still a great early Dylan fan………..I guess my fingers got arthritic and the frets seem to get smaller.
