While networking (smoking) I was chattering about the plans for the weekend. Well, simple arithmetics, October+ cold+ sunny= a dash to Wilkinsons to buy Bulbs! As all my beds are already filled with bulbs I always end up buying a) too many bulbs and b) yet more containers to house them.
My colleagues did the usual "she's a foreigner, just smile and nod" and Debs even volunteer that in her family they store extra bulbs in a box under the stairs.

Dear me, I do admit that I have a bit of a reputation of being eh... a personality? Bonkers? But for goodness sake, I can just picture the colleagues imagining a bustling Finn filling all the beds in the house with piles and piles of lightbulbs... and to have the good grace to just smile and nod.

No gardeners, this bunch. But great! :luv:

Keep it up Selleri, think of it as education!

I've found quite a few closet gardeners at work, people don't seem to discuss it much normally but there are some even keener than me with allotment photos on their PC screensavers. It is generally the 'older' colleagues who are keen to talk, some of the younger ones have asked me for spare chilli plants though.

I had no idea you were from Finland Selleri. Take that as a compliment or not!

I'm considered off at work because a) I keep chickens, b) I love gardening and c) talk about both.

    Non gardeners eh? Odd bunch!

    Hi Selleri,

Next conversation, start refering to them as "Blubs" at least that will identify the Radio 2 listeners.

During the 1989/93 recession, the mrs & I were both temping in a big office, wearing suits but close to starvation. Mortgage had gone up to £650 a month, net income was £400 a month. We baked our own bread which was filled with alfalfa sprouts for lunch.

There was a building site next to the office which had loads of fat hen growing, I picked a huge bunch to eat & carried it up the office stairs at the end of lunch.

The brits ignored this activity, too strange to ask about, but an Indian lady was not only asking me about the veg & how to cook it, she was pulling leaves off my bunch & eating them as we walked up the stairs.

    Hi again,
daitheplant, I'm a Helsinki girl. You can always spot me in the Newcastle airport with my suitcases aptly labelled "HEL". :el-f:
... And the Blubs are in, 20 pink tulips with handfuls of bluebells and some crocuses (croci?) to push through the cyclamen in the big pot, I also salvaged last years bright red tulips (18) as the bulbs looked so good. They are confined to a smaller pot though as I don't really do red. The Midget has her pot of small Fritillarias and crocuses and the Christmas hyacinths are done as well. Learnt my lesson this year and hid the hyacinths in shade.

Loved that, Ziggy. On second reading I figured out that the hen might actually be plants. :D
