Hi folks - anyone got any good tips?

I have a nice pair of (cheap) suede gloves I use as driving gloves. They are absolutely filthy and I want to try and clean them.

I tried once by putting them on my hands and scrubbing them with gentle liquid hand soap but though it freshened them up a bit, made not a jot of difference to all the mucky marks!

    Any suggestions?

I have difficulty buying gloves as I take a size 8½ which is totally outsde the usual ladies range but mens gloves are the wrong fit for a woman!

    Hi Daisees ....

I have a suede shirt which I wear as a light jacket as I did today strangely so odd seeing this post! as I've arrived home. I've been ruthless and thrown it in the washing machine on a gentle cycle several times.

I always knew rubbing it with something rough to get the nap up ... a cat hair remover thingy is good. You can also remove stains by using a pencil eraser on the stain ... but this of course would depend on the stain .... then brush with a suede bush or soft wire brush if you have one.

Sometimes using a little white vinegar to a stain removes it, followed as usual with the brushing.

A brass brush is what you want to get the pile up with.

    Googled for this information:

"Leather and suede wash well(by hand) in a salt solution with a mild soap. Cold water only.
Have used Pears soap as well as glycerine soaps. Rinse water gets a few drops of olive oil.
Dry from hangar clips. Massage or knead gloves when partially dry.
    Hope this helps."

Can't think what this was about - obviously in the wrong thread but made me laugh :lollol:
"Yes - you put vaseline in between your toes for a period of about 4 hours
when you will be active, ie, not when you will be sleeping."

Slinky, it be COLD up here in the North East. We have "lazy winds" up here - they don't bother to go around - they go RIGHT THROUGH YOU!! And sussex gardener is right - sometimes my steering wheel is so cold I can't bear to put my hands on it! So gloves are a must for a few minutes at least.

But thanks for all your posts - will try them ...
