I don't think the women would be impressed Clueless, more likely to be bored unless they're 'petrol heads' like my daughter.

I believe you are correct. My comment was meant kind of tongue in cheek, but also an insight, or admission might be a better word, into how some people, mostly men but not exclusively, think.

The thing I find quite funny is my wife pretends to be impressed by my knowledge when I do this, despite that she isn't, I know she isn't, and she knows that I know.

Went down to Lincoln first thing Wednesday morning to pick up my daughter, she had two appointments at Newcastle hospital Wed/Thur, so fueled up the night before. Unleaded was 147.9 and diesel 172.9 which was the cheapest we seen on our trip until we arrived back home, unleaded is now 143.9 and diesel 167.9. What I noticed heading south and north on the A1, the services that have food and accommodation are in general 25p a litre more expensive than the fuel only services, rest areas.

I filled up yesterday here in Surrey, the cheapest I could find was 179.9 for Diesel. Let's hope it keeps coming down.

Our regular petrol is about .80 of one of your pounds sterling at the moment so it has dropped considerably in the last month. That said and seeing the comments about classic cars, I have a 'cuda in my garage that used high octane, read expensive, petrol and gets about 13 miles per gallon. Yes, per gallon. And I do enjoy classic car shows and and know my way around the engine compartment of those old girls. :)

My old Bristol had a chevvy v8, might be the same engine as yours. It had the E modification so would do 17 to the gallon. It was a beast but not easy to work on.

I once sold an old Mk 1 Triumph 2.5 PI. It needed a set of injectors. I explained to the buyer that I had had 16 mpg from it and he said "They can be heavy on fuel". What I didn't tell him was 16 mpg was the BEST I ever got!

This engine is a 440-6. So I don't know how that compares as I'm not familiar with vehicles over there. :noidea:

That comes out at 7.2 litres, pretty massive 13 mpg sounds pretty good, is that Imperial gallons or US gallons?

Imperial gallons. Yes, it is a big engine. It can do wheelies...

Our house heating gas now has loads of extra taxes. Carbon tax being the biggest of all. There is also carbon tax on petrol and of all the stupid things, on our electricity too. It doesn't matter what energy source you use here, it gets taxed.

Well, it is good to hear that our governments treat us equally when it comes to battering us with fuel taxes!
The current oil price is now $79 a barrel, just about the same price as January 2022 before the supply, war and inflation problems hit us. The cheapest petrol in my local is £1.49 a liter ( NW UK) which is still +£0.11 / liter than the January prices. So as they say petrol prices go up like a rocket and for various convenient reasons come down like a feather :gaah:

When you take in to account the 5p reduction in fuel duty, then it's 17p a litre more. This time last year the GBP was 10% stronger to the USD, which will have an affect on pump prices.

I was reading an article about the average mileage we drive in a year. From MOT data, we are actually traveling less, in 2011 the average mileage was 7473, in 2019 prior to the pandemic it was 7090. In 2021 it was down to 5398, makes you wonder if they are deliberately keeping fuel prices high.

I just think we are being taken for a ride by everyone these days.
Any excuse to put up prices and keep them high on everything now days.

When they ask businesses why they are putting up prices and causing inflation the two main things seem to fuel and energy.
If the government concentrated on getting those prices as low as possible half of the inflation could disappear overnight night.
Only we know it wouldn't because too many out there are making big money out of all this.

There used to be three fuel stations in our local town with one filing for insolvency in Feb 2021. The garage still has the fuel prices on the billboard outside when it finally closed, unleaded was 108.9p and diesel 113.9 per litre. I don't think I have ever seen such a difference in the cost of unleaded and diesel per litre as what we have seen recently.

Unleaded has dropped by 33p since I started this topic, where as diesel has only dropped by 22p in our area. They do seem to be punishing diesel users which has a knock affect on what we pay for consumer products.

I can remember when there wasn't much difference between the price of diesel or petrol, but soon as everyone started getting in driving diesels the price difference got bigger.

It's just another way of ripping people off, in general you get more miles from a gallon of diesel than you do petrol so they see it as a way of making more money.

Someone needs to get a grip, it's just spiralling out of control.
