What's the meaning of the bit that says "Thanks" or "Thanked x times in n posts" ?
I always try to thank people who reply to my posts, but my points don't seem to go up! Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?? Thanks, (!!) Lindy.

I think the points probably go up for those who YOU thank as oposed to yourself for thanking them.

Eitherway IMO its a naff feature.

    :thumb: Hi Lindy,
"Thanks" is just another nice way of thanking someone for a very interesting or good helpful post.. Entirely optional.. If you like a post you just click on the "Thanks" button.. Bottom right of the box by the edit bitton...:thmb:

Ah, now I understand how to use it! Can you tell who has thanked you, then? Forgive me, but like a few other things, it doesn't seem to be explained anywhere I could find. For example, I have seen various unexplained references to 'Nathan'. Who is Nathan, please? ( Being only an apprentice gardener, I am not au fait with all the intricacies of the site & its personnel! ) Also, how do you get out of the starting blocks with the rep thing??

" Eitherway IMO its a naff feature."

Waste of vertical space the amount of screen real estate used to display the "thanks", daft design IMHO, could have easily just showed a Star-type symbol or somesuch ... too much attention to trying to make forums into social networking sites and the apparent need to NAME everyone who presses the Thanks link ...

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the concept of pressing a "Thanks" button, its the amount of space it takes to display who said Thank You that I think is unnecessary. Some simple icon to indicate how many people thought the post was helpful would do me ... bit like the "Rate this thread" thingie at the top - how often does that get used I wonder?

I can only see 2 or 3 of the last posts on teh screen at once, loads of vertical white space ... used to be able to get lots of replies in a single screen ...

Why don't I have a Thanks button on the bottom right like everyone else? :cnfs:

I have thanked several people but it's not showing. I'm sure I had an icon on the top right but that doesn't seem to be there now and I wrote a little message of thanks. I've looked in my User CP and can't see anything .... perhaps I need to see on Optician ... :(

U don't have a thanks button because u can't thank yourself. Me and everyone else can see your thanks button on your posts but u can't :D

    Hi All,

I just wonder how steep a learning curve it will be to would be gardeners who arrive with enough questions already.

I`m struggling here, and I don`t want to be labelled as negative just because I admit it.

The star system Kristen mentioned sounds easy enough to understand, but who would rate it? And is there a shortcut to filter out the posts that don`t receive any thanks on a given subject? Only saying because there are unthanked posts that have been a lot more helpful than some of the thanked ones. Personally I still fail to see its advantages, maybe in time-but I am not sure.

Little Miss, maybe you can explain it nicely-as you know-I do need the help LOL

I agree with you kristen - also the size of peoples sigs should be limited like on other forums, I'm sure some people like all these animated images after their posts, but they do take up loads of space.
