Hi, I’m desperate not to lose my cherry tree, it is about 7 years old, it has been lovely until the last couple of years but now we are only getting blossom and leaves at the end of the branches. Can anyone give me some advice please, can I bring it back to being bushy again, many thanks in advance

Not an expert by any means, but I would be looking at cutting some of those long leggy branches back after fruiting by about a third to a cluster of leaves.

I'd do around 50% this year and the other 50% next year.

Wait and see what others say as I'm just giving you my thoughts.

Thanks for your reply, some of the branches only have a cluster just at the end, if I was to cut this back do you think I would get any more growth from it?, I’m concerned if I cut them back would I be killing it

Well, no, you wont be killing it, cutting back often promotes new growth from the point you cut back to, but I'd wait until after fruiting so you might get a few cherries off the ends of the shoots before cutting back.

If there is no cluster of leaves then I would cut back to an obvious dormant bud and probably at least half way.
