Cassy (my dog) had her 3 monthly wash and cut today and the Lady who Does'e it said there was a TIC attatched to her neck :euw: and if she Tried to pull it out with Tweezers the head could stay embedded and she could eventually Die, I was freaked out, really felt sick, so i took her to the vets, the nurse had a close look and said it wasn,t a tick, it was a Tag of skin :) The Vet confirmed it :thmb: I was wondering if anyone has came across these Horrible little Bloodsuckers..

Not personally, but they are very nasty things. To humans as well as dogs and cats, if in doubt, get expert help.

Used to get them on my other dog a few years ago.
It used to like laying in the long grass on my allotment, and presume thats where they came from.

We used to coat them in vaseline and they would drop of, also I think a spray with a flea killer works.

Not seen any for a long time

Use "Frontline" now, but not sure if thats effective against ticks.

    I think "Stronghold" is.

:D Oh yes Ydd, they are all over the place. Sheep are usually where they get them from, but if you Frontline your dog you won't have that problem as it kills them along with the flees & everything else.. We keep ours all Frontlined because of going up to the farm.. :dh:

:( You must'nt just pluck them out as the head can stay in.. Your vets probably sell the little gizmo for removing them or we get old jim at the farm to touch them with his ciggy..m They let go & you can pull them out head & all...:euw:

s00kIf you are feeling brave have a look HERE ...!!

You can buy frontline online now without a vets presciption.

I think you still need a prescription for stronghold

YES, They are bad over here. I put frontline on my cats just a week ago, and pulling off ticks from neck area daily. It is terrible, can't wait for a good frost. All summer nothing.

My dogs have them from time to time. I soak them in gin or vodka , dabbed on with cotton wool and after a few minutes remove the WHOLE tick with tweezers or pliers

:thumb: There we go then, lots of other ways to remove ticks as well...!!:thumb: Thinking about it though alcohol would certainly make them let go...!!!!:lollol:
:( Yes they are horrid little critters Ydd.. Aperently they are very bad this year as we have had such warm damp summers....!!! As Redstar says, roll on the frosts to kill these pesky things off..!!!

I shall have to look into the price of Frontline on the net then Pete, although I can't make up my mind if it is better than Stronghold or not...!!!!

I do believe the FRONTLINE is only for fleas.
FRONTLINE COMBO will cover flea ,ticks, lice.
Frontline can be purchased online, but FRONTLINE COMBO needs a prescription.
I have been using combo (not me personally) for our cats over the years with no problems.
Works out about £1 week per animal. Not bad for the health of a pets.

:thumb: Hi Robert, I was just looking at the Frontline site.. It does kill ticks & everything else, but it isn't a wormer as Stronghold is...

Stronghold though, also kills worms as well...!!!!!!!
 Think that was why I changed to it..!!
