Conference pear tree problem

I have a Conference pear tree which has bloomed beautifully this year and most are setting fine but several branch ends have suddenly gone black and died off.
I would appreciate any advice as to what may have caused this and what my best course of action would be please. Picture attached.

Its just a guess, its not something I know much about, I think if it is you have to prune out the affected branches.
But I wouldn't be sure myself.

 

That's what I'm thinking but don't know to what extent it's likely to spread. Nothing to lose by cutting those bits out I suppose and keeping an eye on it.

Sadly it does look like fireblight. The Defra link below gives some information but not really of much use to you. It also states towards the bottom that it's a notifiable disease.
