I bought this plant from lidl sometime this summer as an indoor plant but since seen it in a garden.:cnfs:

Anyone know what it is and if indeed it can go in the garden instead of an already over crouded front room.

I believe it is a Celosia plumosa and unfortunately tender annual not suited to our winter weather. Makes a lovely houseplant though.

That is a Celosia 'Caracas' (I honestly don't remember if caracas is the species or a cultivar):

As far as I know it's an annual and not hardy, so it may be used for summer bedding, but no more than that.

Apparently there is a difference between amaranthus and celosia, I never knew that, but after reading about them I am none the wiser to be honest.
