November is 'National Make A Will Month'.

Solicitors that participate in the scheme will draw up your will free of charge and you will be asked to contribute towards the charity "Will Aid".

Contributing is not a requirement so if you are struggling financially then you don't need to contribute. This is a good way to get your will made.

Log on to Will Aid and all you have to do is put in your post code and it will tell you the solicitors in your area who are participating.

In my, non-expert, opinion a will is essential nowadays. Particularly if you have children or own a house or live with a partner.

    It's now a year later.

For those of you that didn't see this thread last year then Will Aid is on again.

Here is a link to the info

Will Aid runs again this November

But Shiney, then they want your name and E mail Address.

I've no problem with donating to charity but when you bear in mind how much these sharks charge normally I think its all a bit of a con.

So we end up paying the suggested amounts, or feel guilty, if thats not the case then why suggest how much we should pay?

I hate and refuse to give to any charity that has the gaul to tell me what I should give them.
Even if it is just "suggested".

I have already spoken to one of our local solicitors as I want to take one of the people I look after in order to make their will. The solicitor not only said that he need not pay anything to the charity but there is no obligation for anything and the solicitors will store the will free of charge.

No one can make me feel guilty about anything :thumb: :). Only I can do that - and I've never managed it yet. :hehe:

Blast, we just had our wills done, cost £70 each for me and Mrs JWK. I thought that was a bargain. I don't mind as our local solicitor is a real gem.

I agree with you Shiney about the importance of having a will done. Having just been through a great deal of trouble sorting out my Dad's estate, it made me realise that it would save so many problems by organising things now, including an 'Expression of Wishes' document.

No I haven't but now that I am a widow I know that I should. My house/car etc, etc, wouldn't just 'pass down' to my son would it? I believe it would be more difficult for him than that so really I need to do this.

I made my latest will 3 weeks ago with family solicitor. If you have dependants like I do it is worth every penny as is life insurance.

A very good point Shiney and EVERYBODY should have a will.
It doesn't matter how much or how little you have, or how straightforward you think it will be, it won't be like that and just leaves a mess for other people if you don't have a will. It's like insurance - people say they can't afford it but can you afford not to have it.

Another point is, people think if they have made a will everything is sorted - and so it is if they die. But if they become incapacitated through accident or illness who can act for them? Everybody really needs to appoint someone with Power of Attorney.
Think about it. If you have a stroke tomorrow and can't act for yourself, what happens next ?

Got to be joking. National Will Month. Well folks, "we" , my husband and I have no children to leave anything to. I have told my husband, I am spending it all NOW. And then close to old age, I am going to jack up all my credit cards to the hilt, then die. Leaving no one to get anything from me. Thats the plan.

Yes we both have written a will as we own our house and have two sons and I want the money to go to them.
I have also written a "living will" which I hope will be adhered to. It is in the safe keeping of my brother.

I don't know about the law in your country but if you die with debts in this country they can, depending on circumstances, end up being the debt of your spouse. Better make sure he dies first :) - unless he is going to do the same :hehe:.
