Oh, I am so sorry. But if you had something in writing from the first guy who contracted you, and nothing to end the contract from either could you not get your money that way?

How did you find out Spud?

Did you go for your cash and they told you then?

Spudbristol, if you had a contract with the original company then it is their duty to terminate the contract, the usual being having to give you 90 days notice for termination of the contract unless you had different terms in your contract.
I'd suggest that you get them to pay and charge them termination costs as well.

Surely you can wangle it with the new managment so you keep the contract for the grass cutting along with payment backdated for the 3 cuts, A fresh contract will also be a chance to increase the contract price.

Otherwise, small claims court it, easy peasy to download the forms online and chances are they will then pay or just not bother to atend the court, result instant payment and you can claim back intrest lost.

Personally for comercial jobs I always invoice monthly, payment terms 30 days with payment sent to my business account via BACS, keeps things simple and problem free.

It's good to hear that you have started to get your money :thumb:. Hopefully the rest will come in as well. :)

If they refused to pay you it would depend on what their buyout contract said. It is quite common when someone is buying a business for them to get an indemnity from the vendor for liabilities prior to the sale. In which case you would have to chase the original business, which probably doesn't exist any more :(

Having said that, generally the people that have taken over would want you to continue and would consider that peying you what is owed is worth doing.

    Good luck. :)
