Had 4 old hybrid hens 2 died so got 4 plymouth barred rock pullets, the young hens hide in the coops and if one goes out to the run the 2 old hens corner it and peck it , is this normal pecking order behavior , how long will it take for bullying to stop , our should I separate them all together

It's normal but not pleasant. Sometimes it doesn't stop...my newish girls are still getting hassled by the older hens 5 months on. Is there any chance of creating a separate run for your pullets and supervising 'bedtime' to make sure that they establish a violence-free routine? If you're there most of the time, you can stop it by establishing your position as 'top hen' and tapping the bullies lightly with a cane every time they peck. They're pretty quick to learn.

Thanks great advice, Unable to have 2 runs , would letting the old hens out free range in garden by them selves a few hours a day help?

Not an expert on poultry but wonder if letting one old hen remain in would adjust the power balance. Also may show which is the 'aggro' merchant ?

That depends how fond you are of your garden! They're very destructive in their endless quest for food. Try ensuring that there are two lots of food and water some way apart and try to spend some time with them so you can put a stop to the bullying behaviour. Failing that, if the older ones don't lay much, rehome them! My bullies are going to my next-door neighbour. The ultimate destination for the very old or unrepentant hooligans  Apparently they make good soup :chicken:
