It would appear we have adopted a stray cat which has been hanging around our garden for the past week. It is a bonnie wee Coca-Cola coloured thing with lovely clear green eyes. It is very timid but seems ravenous. My good lady is feeding it three times a day and it eats everything she puts down to it. If you sit near it it meows with the odd hiss mixed in. Perhaps if we can gain its confidence we will be able to take it to the vet to see if it is chipped. We have checked the local lost pet sites but nothing reported missing that matches its description. We cannot let it into the house as our two house cats would take ill out but SHMBO bought a little raised wooden shelter today.

That is so kind of you to take care of the poor thing! Do I see an assembly project coming for you now?

They sold us the one off the shelf so it was just a case of putting a folder blanket inside and positioning it in a sheltered spot. I think the cat has been sheltering under my raised cold frame so we placed it near there.

That's so lovely of you and your wife Jocko. Well done.

When we were first married we lived in a flat.We noticed a gorgeous Afghan Hound hanging around our door and communal car park .It was Winter and a typical grey cold day and come evening the poor dog was still wandering around so we took it in . Phoned the police and they did all the appropriate checks to see if it had been reported missing. They asked if we were happy to hold on to him and give him a temporary home....we were more than happy to do so.:dbgrtmb:
He was a beautiful ,soppy and affectionate dog who we loved having with us for 8 days, we were secretly sad to see in go but very happy to witness his excitement on being reunited with his distraught owners .

We were only talking about him the other day...we may have only shared 8 days of our life with him but 44 years later he's still in our hearts.:doggieshmooze: :imphrt:

Madge is the cat whisperer and she has been feeding it (even ours avoid me). Tonight she was sitting on the doorstep while it was feeding and it sat about 8ft from her. When she eventually came in it came and sat right outside the glass door. We don't know what else to do. If we didn't have our two we would probably let it come in (if it wanted to).

Today I telephoned the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home and their take on it was as long as it is looking healthy just let it be. If it gets thin and scruffy then the SSPCA will probably check it out.
I phoned the two local vets and told them if anyone approached them about a missing cat to give them our details. Other than feeding it there doesn't seem to be a lot we can do about it.

Just time and gentle patience...if it stays then it prefers your place to where it came from. Would love to see a picture - in due course,

I'll have to try and get a picture. There are only five shops in the village and I thought if I made a flyer for each they may stick them up.

I suppose you are not on Facebook, it does have its uses, on my local pages lots of lost animals get reunited with their owners even the local vets get involved and post pictures of dogs and cats that get brought in to them.
It could be worth a shot, but I think its the case that unless a cat is in distress you leave them alone, dogs are a bit different as they are not allowed to roam.

I actually was able to help some people who had recently moved to the area and their cat had escaped before it got chance to get to know its new home.
This was a couple of years ago and it was hanging around my place for over a week, but I recognised it in a picture on Facebook.

I had a look on Facebook (I am not a user) but there were no local pages other than Community Council and a couple of businesses. I couldn't find an open forum where local news and such was posted.

That's strange, you need to look for groups, you need to join to see most of them I think.
There are umpteen local groups on my Facebook all mostly about differing aspects of the area you live in.

I have applied to join Danderhall Mining Community which seems to be the most likely site for the village. I have handed flyers into the local shops.
