    A "shirt trip?"

    Are they cheaper in Spain?

    Sorry!

I used to insist on proof-reading adverts for my stores, as our advertising department were useless at it.
They'd caused a bit of embarrassment in the past.

I once worked for a firm which posted internal vacancies on the staff noticeboard. One advertisement stressed the need for a self-motivated, flexible personality, able to work under pressure, handle numerous tasks at once etc etc and generally be a paragon of all known virtues for a salary which wouldn't keep a church mouse. At the bottom of the notice were the words 'shift allowance'. Unfortunately someone had missed the 'f' out of 'shift'. I like to think it was intentional.

I've always been a bit of a fan of Len Deighton, I recently re-read "Fighter" and "Bomber." The attention to detail and research that went into both was really impressive.

I also re-read his "Goodbye Micky Mouse."

Also a big fan of Terry Pratchett, especially the Withches and Wizards characters. So sad about the author's problemas with Altzheimers - however he seems to be managing well to date.

Snap! The man is a genius, especially his insight into how a village witch works:thmb: I have quite a few of first editions by him - it's become a tradition that my partner always gives me one for my birthday :)

I tend to be reading a number of books at the same time. I have different books in different rooms and at different parts of the lounge . That way, I can pick up a book whenever I want.

    I'm currently reading:-
a Ward Lock Illustrated Guide Book to the English Lake District circa 1908 with extracts from Wordsworth's thoughts on the Lake district, some very interesting ads for medicines, 'modern' equipment, vegetables seed collections (from 5/6 to 105/-), hotels with their board and food rates, railway excursions, steamer trips etc.
The Man Who Counted by Malba Tahan - an interesting book, if you like maths and story telling, about the Arabian adventures of a mathematician set around Bhagdad in the middle ages.
    Tom Clancey's Executive Orders.
    Paul McAuley's The Quiet War.
Blindman's Buff by Faye Kellerman (Her husband Johnathan is also a famous author and their son Jesse is following in their footsteps).

I'm another Pratchett fan - am up to date with all his current books (nearly finished) 'Unseen Academicals ' and loving it. And starting to work through his earlier books - though not so good as he was very young BUT the elements are there.

Axie - I've been desperate to ask someone - Am I the only one who can put current footballers faces to the artwork on the front cover. Please tell me you can see Beckham & Rooney in there at least! :gnthb::hehe:
