Anagallis arvensis, the very common Scarlet Pimpernel, has always been one of my favourite "weeds". Provided it doesn't try to take over my bit of the universe, it is welcome. Recently, I discovered that it has a blue cousin Anagallis arvensis - Wikipedia. I would love to get my grubby mitts on seed of this. Has any one ever seen it? Have it growing in their garden? Fof
Sorry but you get get seeds from amazon and a few sites i seen on the net It said usually seen all around uk but mainly Quite common in Leicestershire and Rutland from may to october sorry i cannot help hope but you find some they look pretty
Hi Janet Yes I can get Anagallis arvensis, the Scarlet Pimpernel, on-line easily, but I'm after, A.arvensis f. azurea, the blue form. This is very rare. If you have a link, I'd be grateful.
Saw this flowermedia https://www.flowermedia.com › ana... Anagallis arvensis f. azurea - Blue-flowered scarlet pimpernel (109152) 8 Feb 2018 — Anagallis arvensis f. azurea - Blue-flowered scarlet pimpernel (109152). Photos and pictures of flowers and plants, gardens and gardening.
Thanks, Janet. That is what I am looking for, but that site just sell pictures of the plant. I am after seed. Good try though.
Hi Victoria. Thanks for the link, but 2 problems. a These are from the USA. May be import issues. b Lysimachia monelli is not a native British sp and is not the same plant as Anagallis arvensis f. azurea which is, and is quite rare. Very similar flower but I don't want to introduce another non-native "weed" into the garden, even though it is easily bought from nurseries. Thanks again. I've trawled Ebay, Amazon and any links I can find. They all offer either Anagallis arvensis (Scarlet Pimpernel) and/or Lysimachia monelli (Blue Pimpernel). None list A. arvensis f. azurea which is why I'm trying here.
Just for what it is worth. Portugal is worse than the UK for import issues and I have no problems with seeds.
I wouldn't really expect an issue with seed in the post, but you never know. When I lived in Australia, which has some of the tightest biosecurity regimes, I and others I knew, regularly ordered cactus seed from suppliers in the US. Seed had to be labelled and with a Cites statement. Not an issue. They were reputable and wouldn't mis-name the seeds for you. Then a horse was brought into the country, from Japan, to take part in some prestigeous horse race. The gov Quarantine Service was responsible for it going through quarantine, etc, but it didn't and it brought equine flu into the country. The racing industry (very powerful body) was up in arms and the gov tightened up on EVERYTHING. Suddenly my seeds did not arrive, just a note which listed, if any, the ones you could have and which would be destroyed. Further research led me to an official list of acceptable species. When I pointed out to them that most of them were synonyms of plants on the list. Irrelevent! That name isn't on the list and to add/remove from the list required an act of parliament. One never knows. C'est la vie
I ordered seeds from the US a couple of months ago, they arrived in about a week. Doesn't look like they want international trade looking at the shipping price on that particular one.
I have had these seed from T&M a few years back . I shall check my other seed lists as I deal with Chilterns seeds and Plant world seeds for something different .
The nearest I could find is a variety called caerulea but not azurea. Scarlet Pimpernel is one of my favourite weeds and I have lots in my garden. I didn't know there was a blue form and now I want the seeds too !
A tight biosecurity regime which can lead to stupid blunders, see Australian biosecurity officials destroy 'irreplaceable' plant samples from 19th century France.
