It appears the tendon may be intact and something else has torn or the tendon is hanging by a thread:dh: He's going to have a scan sometime before next tuesday when he sees the Surgeon again.

Really sorry to hear that Nick.

Tell him our son had it happen twice and had to have an op - they
told him if he'd had surgery in the first place then it would probably not have
happened again. Funny things achilles tendons wish him well from us.

How did he get it broken in the first place? Just curious. My mom broke a tendon (achilles') too, years ago, and it's not as if she is into extreme sports. She hadanoperationand the thing solved well.

Mark used to be the head fitness Instructor at a very well know Hotel/spa here in the Village and also played a lot of high level football, mind you he had a brilliant coach:cool:, but he was away from all that for a couple of years. He was playing in a Charity football match and was only about 15 minutes into the game when ...BANG!....It was heard on the adjoining pitch too!:dh:

Oh Pal, so sorry to hear that. Please give him our best wishes for a speedy recovery, operation or not. I, too, have heard that it is one of the most painful things that can happen to you.

    All the best.

Not at all uncommon for a TA to go again even when it's been repaired. Difficult things to get healed are TAs. Tell him from this old nurse - if (when) he has it operated upon, thereafter he must make SURE everyone who comes to attend to him had washed their hands first! Cannot be too careful.

:( No chance of a cast this time. It has a 4cm gap in it:doh:Top Ortho doc will be doing the Op because it will be a biggie. Extra tendon 'straps' etc; and stitching??
The earliest date is the 11th Nov.:scratch:Seems there is no one available before then with the expertise.
The scan revealed the tendon hadn't even healed the first time,it was just the other tendons doing the work. They don't know how he was able to use my X Trainer for an hour at a time without it 'going' again:cnfs:
Anyone got an idea how to snap a twenty odd year old out of dispair...?(and his Dad for that matter!)
