...And especially for Banana Man as he's fallen out of love of his and needs inspiration!
Right, this is a continuation of a thread I started in the general section http://www.gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=17400

I wanted to remove the front lawn as it was small and grew really badly (I later found out this was due to a lot of stones underneath); I was looking for a sort of cottage garden feel and have got maybe half way there...

    The start

Mark out the area with bricks

Remove turf and bed in brick edge (the turf had been sprayed with roundup a couple of weeks beforehand and the turf dumped upside down on the outer area
    [IMG]

Add hardcore, tamp down and add 1 tonne of derbyshire limestone 20mm; then dig over remaining old lawn

At which point I was going to leave it until spring for planting and let the frosts properly break up the soil but you know how it is; I got a few plants and have laid them out...

I also tidied up the access to the side of the house with a few paving slabs but you can't see it all that well; underneath the window will be a garden bench (wooden slats, cast iron legs etc)

I'm also seriously considering ripping out the front hedge, but that can wait!

Next year will see a complete transformation when I add a load of new plants!

Looks really good Loofah ! does it feel lighter in doors from the gravel. I noticed when I did my back garden that the gravel lightens up everything.:thumb:

Looks fantastic. I cleaned my patio the other day and more light bounces off it into the house. So you've been busy this weekend then
