    Hi everyone.

I'm now the proud owner of plots 9 and 10 at the viaducts allotment site in Bristol. Each is 5m x 25m. The plots haven't been prepared yet but the landowner (it's a private site) is doing all that. Looking at the job he's done on other plots so far, and having spoken to one of the new plot holders this morning, he'll do a great job.

The price of the plot also includes water and I get my own tap.

The site is lovely and quiet, surrounded by fields, there's a train viaduct that runs past the far edge so I can imagine me relaxing on my plot next summer watching the trains go by.

Parking is fantastic and the site is very well protected. The other bit of good news is that I won't have to start paying until January 2009.

    Ant.

    B.M.

I'm planning on using the plot to grow plants for my own garden as well as veg. As soon as the plot is ready i'll be putting up a shed and the area around it will be purely ornamental.

I've already considered the possibility of being able to stay overnight so the shed will be big enough for a put up bed.

I've also been looking at small portable generators. :D

Superb Ant. I too got myself a plot, last week. It's not an allotment as such, in fact it's someones back garden that's not practical as a garden as such because it's separated by a lane. Actually, it's not THAT far from yours, Pucklechurch, which is just up the road from me. Happy gardening. Cheers...freddy.

    Hi Freddy.

Well done on the new plot. Pucklechurch is just up the road from me too.

Don't forget to post some pictures of your new plot.

    Ant.

Well done Ant, boy are you going to have fun down on your allotments!

Doesn't just saying out loud 'My allotments' give you a real thrill although I'm going a little posh these days and calling our bottom ones 'The Paddocks':lollol:

One good piece of advice I would like to give you... that's if you don't mind?
Is to make plans out before you start where you want things to go eventually don't rush to build things up here and there as this was one mistake we fell for with our first allotment as we wanted everything 'done' as quickly as possible and only ended up moving vast amounts of 'stuff' from here to there and back again!

Plan out where your shed will go because you will certainly need one I'll pop up Bob's shed which he built for the price of £6.99 on my thread later on today (if I remember:doh:) also where your compost bins are going to go always make a couple of them because boy are you going to need it.

Have a burning area to get rid of everything you don't want to compost as well as a fire pit to keep you warm through winter because you will always find things to do even when it's bitter cold.

Start collecting pallets these are the back bone of many allotments and with a lick of treatment they look even better than brought wood!

Anyway Ant I'm sure you will find your feet and enjoy being an allotmenteer just as much as Bob and I do and remember to have fun because all work and no play makes Jack a sad boy!

I'll look forward into seeing how your plot comes on. Well done to you Freddy for getting your hands on some extra land too now you can class yourself as an allotmenteer as well!:wink:Hel.xxx.

    Hel.

Any advice is always going to be appreciated so thanks for your post. Unfortunately my plot still isn't ready so I decided to take what you've said onboard and start planning the layout of my plot.

Here's what i've come up with so far ...

My goodness your 'play' plot is quite stunning Ant you have covered most of what you may need a nice shed, a couple of raised beds and as many of helpers as you can grab to help you out on your quest you lucky thing!

It's nice to see you have planted some flowers too.....although I bet we all wished our plots could be as instant as Playmobil!:lollol::D Hel.xxx.
