Does anyone tenpin Bowl???

I,m looking for some advice and was wondering if any members bowl for a hobbie? I,ve got a few basic questions that i cannot seem to find on the internet.

 

not me slinks I always let go at the wrong time and take out all the peeps stood behind me :(

 

I used to and have bowled briefly in a league. Ask away I'm someone will have the answers

 

Slinky - I did quite a bit of tenpin bowling until recently. If I can help I will.

 

Cheers for replys............My 1st question is I dont yet have my own ball and am seriously thinking of getting one.With the Normal plastic house balls i use at my local alley I cannot Hook the ball, is it me or is it down to these Reactive balls that the better players use??????

2nd question...........What is a good average for a beginner bowler [ if that makes sence]

 

No Slink it's not you. It is all down to the ball. You will find that some of the "better players" use 2 or 3 balls - depending on the shot that are taking. There are "straight" balls, there are "hook balls". It's important to get the weight of the ball right for you as well. Make sure you go to a reputable pro bowling shop to be measured for the ball and try different weights first - make sure you use them for a few games because what is right for one game may not suit you through 4 games. (You could end up with pulled muscles etc)

Your second question is more difficult to answer - some of our beginners were scoring an average 120 - some a lot less, some of our more experienced bowlers were bowling an average of 120. The main thing is that you enjoy the game. Don't get drawn into taking it all too seriously. I played for about 12 years in leagues and have just moved and not got into it again yet - sometimes I bowled a 190 sometimes I bowled a 90!:thumb:

 

Thank you ever so much Clematis you put my mind at ease, I,m thinking of buying a mid-range reactive ball slightly more expensive than a normal plastic even tho the gent at the pro shop suggested a plastic to start. My biggest worry is I buy a plastic[straight ball] and 3 months down the road I,ve got to spend another large amount of money again to get a reactive ball,because ive mastered the basic fundamentals of bowling..........Am i trying to run before i can walk????? As money is tight

 

Get a Wii I'm much better at bowling on there than I was in real life (haven't been since I've been playing on there) I can curve it both ways now

 

I,ve got one and am fantastic at it,But its really not realistic to the real thing.............

Tenpin Bowling is quite complex...............lol

 

I'll remember that as I'm quite good on the wii so I won't boast when I play the real thing then lol
