At this time of the year there are a few mature sanguineum on the way to work which I admire every morning. The recommended max size of these shrubs is about 2m x 2m and those on the way to work seem to be around that size. I bought a small one for the garden about 3 years ago but sadly it was a mistake. It quickly put on size and didn't look right in the relatively small plot it was in, so I dug it up and discarded it, which I still regret. I'd really like to give it another go and I had a sudden brainwave. Is there actually such a thing as a dwarf cultivar of this species? One which stays quite small, maybe a metre height/spread? If not I realise I could get a normal variety and maybe keep on top of pruning it to keep it in check but I'd have to be careful not to remove growth which bares the following springs flowers. Anyone know if there is indeed a dwarf sanguineum?
Consider Ribes sanguineum 'Brocklebankii'.. it's about half the height of the usual types. So 'CoPilot' just told me ..
I've never heard of that but yes, that looks to be just what i'm looking for. Just need to find one now! Thank you.
