Has anyone got any good tips for easing the lurgy.

The lurgy in question being a fairly standard common cold, but a stinker of one. Bad cough, extreme fatigue, bunged sinuses and the headache and earache that goes with that.

I've had this over a week so far and instead of improving, it seems to be getting worse.

I have brandy and rum, but I can't be using alcohol as the fix. I had the tiniest drop of brandy earlier in the hope it wouldn't loosen up my bunged sinuses, but no.

    You have my sympathy @Clueless 1 v2
It sounds like the lurgy I had a few weeks ago … it lasted getting on for a fortnight and then a week of exhaustion. I sucked Jakemans Menthol & Eucalyptus lozenges virtually non stop … they’re the only thing that helped my chest and head enough to enable me to breathe.

Olbas Oil to inhale or the pastille versions to suck usually very helpful @Clueless 1 v2

I go with 1 crushed clove of garlic, good squirt of lemon juice plus honey to taste, in a mug add boiling water stir and sip.

Extra zinc, vit c + iron or a good multivitamin to boost the immune system.
Garlic, honey, nettle, elderflower and chamomile are good.
Essential oils of eucalyptus, lemon grass and clove have all been scientifically proven to get rid of gram+/gram- bacteria. Diffuse it or put a few drops on a hanky in your pocket or under the pillow, or just sniff it from the bottle when you need to.
If you're hungry, eat. If you're not, don't. Soup is always good as it's easy to digest, always better when someone else makes it. ;)
          Rest. More rest.

Paracetamol every 4 hrs, you need to take it regularly.

I've had a tickly chesty cough for a couple of weeks but dont have a clue what's casing it.

as they say, there's a lot of it about.

Oh, I almost forgot! Steam your head. Just in case anyone doesn't know.. Table salt + hot water, towel over your head and the bowl - close the gaps, breathe normally until you can no longer stand the sauna. Essential oils can be added if required.
The hot water will loosen any mucous, and the salt will help dry it up, salt is fantastic for anything respiratory, including allergies, and it's a brilliant antiseptic as we all know. Gargle with it too, it'll save you on mouthwash.

Do you like curry, Clue? A proper, preferably home-made, curry contains quite a few helpful ingredients. Garlic, turmeric and chilli are three that spring to mind. If you do like it, it's an agreeable way to combat the lurgy.

Problem is table salt won't get into the steam, you would need to put the salt solution through an atomiser and inhale the droplets to get the salt into the respiratory system.

Salt is excellent as a mouth wash for mouth ulcers, stings but works, likewise gargling with a salt solution is good for sore throats.
Also excellent for preserving meat, fish and a range of fruit and vegetables.

Years ago I used to sniff up salt water to clear out all the wood dust:roflol:.

                      It used to work.

                        Loads of good ideas here.

I'm taking my vitamin and mineral supplements. Paracetamol and ibuprofen. I have some Jakemans. I wanted Fisherman's Friends but I can find them anywhere.

I might do a steamer tonight. And gargle the saltwater. A curry is a solid idea but I've had my tea so I'll have to forgo that tonight. But I will no doubt have a tin of soup for supper. I could lace it with cayenne and ginger and other snot busting spices.

I bought a disgusting thing from the pharmacy that did wonder for my blocked sinuses. You stick it right up your nose and squirt this pump thing and it fires the solution right up. It's worked wonders, but it's only temporary.

No I'm throwing everything at it cos I'm sick of it now. And it's the long weekend after tomorrow. Its one thing being lurgied when you have to go to work, but something else being lurgied when you're supposed to be enjoying yourself.

I've had a stinker of a cold this week, and found that good old fashioned lemsip helped a lot (the powder saches you add hot water to). The main active ingredient is paracetamol, so I suppose you could just take that instead, as @pete suggested.
