A cold will be gone in a week if you treat it with remedies and potions but it will take seven days if you don't

Hot squash, multi vitamins (particularly C,D and zinc), paracetamol and Olbas Oil (to sniff). That’s my recipe anyway. There’s no quick fix really so it’s all about keeping comfy, warm and hydrated. I hope @Clueless 1 v2, and anyone else suffering from colds viruses, feels better soon.

Paracetemol, 2 every 6 hours max. Good old Vick's vapour rub.

Colds: a week with treatment, or 7 days without!

Sounds like what I had on the bounce from tonsillitis. It hanged around for a month and was a stinker. Gave up on the paracetamol/ brufen mixes and just used Jakemans menthol sweets to clear the sinuses

Steaming is really good for clearing sinuses. I put a couple of drops of olbas oil in the water and as previously said steam until you sweat, usually around 10 to 15 minutes. A few years ago I had bronchitis and this method was the only one that helped.

Strange that you should start this thread today @Clueless 1 v2. I've just started a cold and haven't had one for at least 15 years.

I read somewhere that rubbing Vick on your feet works. Maybe it's the same principle as rubbing garlic on your feet makes your breath smell. I'd rather not think about treading on a slug or dog poo

Salt therapy has been used for a few centuries at least, it works.

If you inhale the atmosphere above a salt solution, hot or cold, no salt enters the respiratory system and therefore has no effect.
However if the salt solution is atomised in some way, or salt dust is inhaled then the salt can enter the system and have an effect.

Apparently when my dad was a kid, he had regular chest lurgy. Including at least one round of pneumonia. They lived in Bradford at the time. Lots of coal fired industry. The doctors apparently advised my grandparents to move to the coast because my dad's chest needed the salt air.

Funnily enough, when I was was a kid, I too suffered regularly chest lurgy. The doctors official advice to my parents whenever I was off school wheezing and choking my guts up was to 'get him down the sea front for a brisk walk in the salt air'.

I think possibly the wind can whip up the salt water and actually cause some salt in the atmosphere, which seems different to salt being able to evaporate with hot water.

Just look at how far from the sea young spring growth can be damaged.

In the 87 so called hurricane we even had salt damage on foliage here 30 miles from the coast.

That's exactly what it is. I agree it's not evaporating. We'd have a problem breathing evaporated salt, given it doesn't evaporate until 700 degrees C.

It's soluble in water though, so as you say, gets whipped up as vapour as the wind and waves interact.

I picked up a bug in mid February (thanks fave grandson !) and not been right since. An ear infection followed, then it kicked off my asthma which meant I couldnt sleep for coughing, them stomach and back pain etc
Just had my fifth doctors appointment today and awaiting further appointments …
In terms of clearing my tubes I found inhaling crystals the best thing fwiw
