Spotted two of these 'cables' that sort of look like the Loch Ness Monster in one area of my flower bed, how they come out of the soil and then go back in. Does anyone know what they are? I know it's not a lot to go off but just wondering if anyone has seen anything similar in their garden.
Plantnet wasn't any help as there are no leaves, flowers or bark. And I did a Google image search but couldn't find anything. They're near a young hydrangea, mexican orange blossom, some phlox, rudbeckia and euphorbia. Also a few spring bulbs around there.

My guess is they are connected to the phlox, but I am nowhere near certain

I had something similar and when I pulled them, it turned out they originated from my over enthusiastic Rosa Rugosa.
