We have a roadside hedge (on a busy A road) which is in need on trimming. We thought about getting a local farmer round to cut it, but I'm loath to pay for something that I could do myself. I was wondering if anybody knew what the laws are regarding putting cones out on the road? I'm guessing it's a no no, but no harm in asking. Failing that, anyone got any other suggestions other than the local farmer? Cheers.

Not sure on the laws, but how busy?

Are you allowed to park a car outside? as you could one as an obsticle if your allowed to park by your house to make people slow or take more care to get past.

You can't really park a car outside unless you're picking up/dropping off. You soon get a tail back when you do as well!

The road is pretty busy during the week, not so much on Sundays so I was thinking of doing it then.

In theory you should probably contact the councill.

The reality is just get on with it, Ive coned even quite busy B roads although I usually start early so im not working at peak traffic times. Also I always wear a hivis and work tidily so it looks reasnably official.

If it's a national speed limit road then I think you may need full Chapter 8 carried out by a qualified person. Other than that some 'men at work', 'road narrows', cones and bunting may be required. Choosing a quiet day to carry the work out is often the best.

"Are you allowed to park a car outside? as you could one as an obsticle "

The risk of partly blocking the road lane with a vehicle is that you are limiting visibility and often some one will try and overtake it, and cut across the work area.

Or possibly simply drive into it, your insurance may not be that sympathetic.

Best to just use cones and sighns.
