    Hi pdragon70,

Try any derilict building site, disused petrol station or any other neglected patch of hardstanding. There you will find budhlia aplenty for free.

Simply snap off a bit of branch, take it home and shove it into the ground. It will take without any further effort from you (in a similar way to willow) and you will then be sentenced to a lifetime of fighting it and hacking it back ever year.

Budlhia will inherit the earth once we have concreted it all and had to move on.

Still the butterflies love it

Hi all, just joined on the back of a question I have about my budhlia.

Does anyone know how you can train a budhlia into a tree shape instead of just a sprawling bush? I have mine in a pot at the moment and is one of those lovely white ones with lovely fluffy leaves. It's only about 2 foot currently. So i'm thinking longer term here.
Any ideas greatly appreciated as I'd like to plant it shortly.

    Thanks guys
    Nicky

Plant it... prune into shape you want! Budleias are indestructable so trim all the spare shoots off and keep them trimmed until you have the trunk you desire

I have a white buddleia called White Profusion but it doesn't have fluffy leaves. The leaves look just like standard buddleia leaves. It's very vigorous and like Loofah says, can be pruned into any shape you want. Constant deadheading tends to bring it back to a regular bush shape, though, and this maximises the flowers.

Is yours some miniature hybrid? It might not be as robust as the regular varieties.

At the risk of sounding like me Mum...... it's spelt BUDDLEIA.. after Mr. Buddle ! ;-)

It makes googling easier if you spell it right!

I'm glad you pointed that one out...I was about to, when I saw you had already.

Check out your local nursery/garden centre. I bought a lovely ruby wine coloured one last summer at mine.

I have Buddleia davidii Royal Red, and it's quite striking. Another lovely bud is globosa with its orange/yellow ball-like flower-heads.

Here's one of mine with a wee visitor having breakfast. I think they are the best butterfly attractors there a[IMG]re!
