There is always a bit of lawn that can be sacrificed for a proper plant to be added.
I have Royal William and it's a good rose vigorous and pest free.
I prefer Ingrid Bergmann though, darker red and well scented.

I can’t understand why people are so negative about Chelsea, it is fabulous, I can’t imagine any serious gardener coming away from it having not learnt several things, and finding at least half a dozen new plants they just have to buy.

We’re off to Chelsea tomorrow, I haven’t been since 2014. Am looking forward to it but wish it wasn’t so crowded. I can cope for so long and then I have to retreat, my dream would be to visit on Monday when all the VIPs and celebs do. It always makes me smile when they whitter on about how one must absolutely go every year - I would too if I got a free ticket and could go when it wasn’t crowded.

I always envy Monty and Co being able to get onto the gardens and walk through them. Standing on the sidelines looking in isn't quite the same.
The attention to detail is fascinating.
            Have a lovely time @Butterfly6 . I haven't visited since the last century !

Absolutely @AnniD it seems such a classist institution...pay all the money and never enter any of the gardens. What is the actual point? I'd rather visit a plant fair where I can actually buy the plants I see. Chelsea almost seems to exist to backslap designers and hoover sponsor money.

I hope you enjoy it @Butterfly6. Last year we went to Hampton Court Flower Show. The grounds are so big it doesn't get so crowded. I went to Chelsea years ago.

Have a look at 'Royal William', It's a fairly tall HT, quite vigorous with lovely dark red new leaves and absolutely beautiful large dark red blooms with a perfume to die for. Mine is now nearly 30 years old, has moved 3 times and flowers occasionally in late November.

Have you ever been to Chelsea, @amancalledgeorge, or are you just criticising it for what you think it is?

Chelsea is an amazing and beautiful show for plants and gardens. You don't go to an art exhibition to buy the paintings. You go to look and admire.

I must admit I didn’t like Chelsea when I went years ago but I don’t like crowds and I loathe London. I do however enjoy watching it on TV such a beautiful event. I love seeing what colours and plants are fashionable.

Ooh Rosa Ingrid Bergman looks lovely too, thanks @NigelJ. At this rate, I may need to pinch some more lawn
