We have a really nice glass vodka bottle that was going to be thrown out but i've saved it!

I'd like to fill it full of oil and put some chillies and basil in that i've grown this year.

Whats the best oil to use? Olive?? Extra Virgin???

And is it just a case of putting a few chillies in and a load of basil?

    Thanks for any advice :thumb:

    Hi Adam,
yes, i think it is just a case of putting a few dried chillies in. Make sure you don't put too many !
I find the extra virgin olive oil has quite a strong after taste. Personally I would go for a lighter one.

As mira says, use a light olive oil.

If you are drying your chillies first then it is OK to put them into the oil abd keep the bottle in a cupboard - or on display if it looks good.

If you use fresh chillies you should heat the oil first, quite hot, otherwise the chillies could go off. Then it would be best to keep the bottle in the fridge. :thumb:

I'd say it depends on what you want to use the oil for.

If it's for frying then just use regular olive oil, but if it's for making salad dressings with then extra virgin is what you need. :)
