I have a dwarf Astroemeria to plant in a large pot. However I’m seeing conflicting information about growing medium. Some sources say John innes no.3, some say plenty of organic matter like manure and “rich compost”. My inclination is to mix
John innes with manure and grit - is this wise ? Any Astroemeria fans here able to advise Tia.

Your mix sounds about right as long as the manure is very well rotted/composted and no more than 10%.

For our standard size ones we just use a mix of garden soil and some standard compost and top dress each spring with some fertiliser / Westland farmyard manure.

Like many plants too much rich compost etc and they concentrate on leafy growth rather than flowers, though ours seem to keep flowering almost all year round with these mild winters.
