Canker is an air borne spore.

Therfore you can ree plant when you want ( this autumn /winter), obviusly avoid the rough area of the old tree, if nothing else the ground will be depleated.

    Hi Claire,

Many trees have bacterial canker on their bark and leaves and suffer no ill effect. Kind of like humans that have the MRSA bacteria on them and are in full health. It is only when the bacteria enter the tree's vascular system through damage or breaks in the bark that it leads to problems. As long as you follow correct planting procedure and aftercare any trees that you plant should not suffer any ill effects. Good luck.
