These are some of the clematis that I have planted in OH's Norfolk garden during the last few years.

Super Nova, then Etoile Violette, Kermesina, Emilia Plater

I have come back to my garden in France, phone doesn't show the deep purple of Etoile Violette which still has some flowers. New ones are coming into bud since I've been watering. Arabella is also out.

Some beautiful clematis photos and I do envy the lovely green leaves. Our clematis leaves are discolouring with black markings on them and looking really poorly. I think it may be a nutrient deficiency but not sure. Does anyone know what causes this typing of discolouration? TIA.

Hello @Songbird , haven't heard from you recently.

I'm afraid the worst scenario is a fungal disease, may be clematis wilt.

However, it could be that your clematis is thirsty or the root run isn't deep enough. Maybe the bottom of the stems have been chewed by slugs. I had a montana clem stem suddenly go black and die. Turned out that handyman had got a bit too close with the strimmer! Luckily he didn't slice through the whole plant!

@Purple Streaks, Maria Cornelia and Miss Bateman are white and can have green stripes in the centre of the petals when young. There may be others.

The first few flowers on my Kermesina (purple) always have green markings on them. When I looked into some years and the most likely cause was low temperatures at some point in flower bud formation.
Some clematis do this, others don't.
