Abelia grandiflora. Can I move it?

It used to be at the back of the border but my neighbours have removed ivy and replaced the fence.
Now it's at the front with about 3 ft behind it

 

How big is it and how long has it been there ?
I would probably wait until the Autumn in any case, but perhaps that's just me.

 

It's about 3 years old and has just become properly established and is beginning to become a bit 'adventurous'
I'm not in a rush to move it yet and, if necessary, I'll leave it and keep it to a suitable size by pruning any stems that get too long ( would that work?)

Not something I've ever grown, but I believe they get quite sizeable, so wouldn't it just be fine where it is? You could always stick something tall and vertical in behind while it grows/spreads. I don't think they're front of border plants though, unless it's an absolutely huge border that can stand large specimens at the front

I wouldn't worry about moving one, or any shrub, here at this time of year, but you have to go with your conditions, so probably better to wait a month or two if you want it further back.

 

Thanks @fairygirl . It's amazing how much ground space ivy takes up - so slowly that you don't realise it. I'm left with a wide strip between mature plants and the trellis fence. Neighbours intend to plant a rambling rose. I hope I've persuaded them not to get a rampant rector or the new bed will soon disappear and solve my problem.
