The idea is you get a route map and a list of questions. There is one themed question for each scarecrow. For this you pay £1 per route. (all goes to selected charities)
At the end of the walk you hand in your answers and there are prizes to win....
The kids love it and are usually best at the answers.
Its chucking it down at the moment 07:55 with steady rain so it looks like todays walk may will be off.

Hi Robert. Dunno how I missed this thread, but I've just gone through it, very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing. We went to Yorkshire a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice to see those vistas again. Cheers...freddy.

Thanks Freddy I hope to add to the thread as we go on our travels during the summer months.
Today we managed to get another scarecrow festival walk in today before it started to rain again.
Another bunch of pictures for your pleasure

Hi again Robert. They have a 'scarecrow trail' every year in a village just up the road from me. It's great that folks go to the trouble of making them, and I must say that those in the pictures are fine specimens indeed ! :) Keep 'em coming :thumb:

    Brilliant again.

I did consider trying to get up today but with the weather being so iffy and I've started with cold I decided I'd be better off staying at home and going for a short walk locally.

Today I took a trip into York to get one item of shopping and to have a walkabout with my camera. 180 pictures later I now know why I like York so much.
Please allow me to guide you with the aid of a few pictures as I recreate my walk.

After picking up my shopping I strolled along the banks of the Foss
    [IMG]

    And headed for Cliffords Tower
    [IMG]

Now we are heading towards the river.
Plenty of folk visiting York today and enjoying the summer like weather
    [IMG]

Passed the little red boats for hire
    a[IMG]

And to continue up stream to Lendal bridge
    [IMG]

After Lendal bridge we are on our way to Ousebridge. On the way we take in some of the riverside buildings and the boating activity

After passing under Lendal bridge we can clearly see Lendal Tower
    [IMG]

Back across lendal bridge we take a short cut to Museum gardens.
As usual the gardens look splendid

Before leaving the gardens we spot this upside down tree?

Thankyou for joinng me on my walkabout today with a few of the 180 odd pictures I took

What a beautiful place you live in!....:luv:

I'm instructed to organise a holiday later in the year,so perhaps this is the opportunity to arrange a visit to York after all:)

Sun was up so another grand day out forced us out to the North York Moors area.
    The decision was not easy:scratch::scratch:
90 pictures later I am happy with the day.
Here are a few for your viewing pleasure.
These first two are just south of Castleton after crossing the largest area of natural moorland in the country
    [IMG]

Danby next and a nice little pull off where we often stop for our picnic
    [IMG]

Spotted this next view at Egton. This is one place I really must investigate further
    [IMG]
    Egton again
    [IMG]

One the dales was on the route day, Farndale, famous for some incredible daf displays in the spring.

This delightful location is also on our stop list for a coffee break.

To finish here are a couple of vistas from our grand day out today
    [IMG]

Thank you for viewing. More to come as we venture out into the wilds of Yorkshire

    Hi Capney,

That's what retirement is all about-doing those things we never had time for before :)
What beautiful photos. I have only been to Yorkshire once, we walked on the moors and didn't see a soul! The scenery was gorgeous just as you have captured it here. :thumb:

There will be many more visits over the next few months.
But first we have some gardens to visit.
One of those will be Castle Howard.
Im really looking forward to that one.
Thats where the Brideshead revisited (The original TV Program was filmed)
But Im sure you knew that.

    Hi Robert,
I've really enjoyed looking at your lovely pictures. My Dad's family are from North Yorkshire - he grew up in Whitby and Scarborough, so I've been a few times but wish I could go more often.
The railway museum is somewhere I want to revisit with my young son. My grandad drove the Mallard, so it's a special feeling seeing her and all the other magnificent engines there.
Wishing you many more grand days out!
