I had donated some small peac lilies that had just been placed in the pot. Very healthy. Its just that they are very slow growing - at least what I can see. Generally is it fact that when young plants don't visibly grow, they are building root structures under the compost instead? Once that's in place, then better above compost growth will occur?

Generally yes. Like everything you need good foundations before you can build up.

The important part is that they are not dead! That means they are working on surviving which is wonderful!

Peace lilies seem to like having congested roots, so they are probably working at filling the pot. If the leaves look healthy, they are content.

Why does growing take so long!

On the plus side, it won't grow so fast it takes over your living quarters!
