I want a narrow shelf in here, on metal triangle brackets. The problem is that the wall is what we lovingly call "chicken pellets" (a close translation  ) wall so just has thin layer of plywood that holds no screws.

On a positive side, it is very easy to drill. :noidea:

We tried all shapes and lengths of wall plugs but all are easily pulled out, making the hole bigger every time.

Any suggestions? Are those Gorilla things actually any good? Glue or tape?

I'm sort of thinking of double-sided taping the brackets in, screwing the shelf onto them and reinforcing it by double siding the back of the shelf onto the wall.

The shelf is narrow and will not have any heavy things on it (just the colander hanging on a hook and possibly neatly folded clean tea towels, if anyone in this household ever develops a skill to neatly fold anything).

    Thanks!

I've hung some small blinds up with glue, glue /grab adhesive really strong now. I didn't rate gorilla glue but evo stick - sticks like sh1t and the dog boll0cks are really good. Ct1 aswell but expensive, most branded glue will do but cheap screwfix type isn't great

        Thanks Perki!

Interesting how shelf fixing language seems to be rather foul even down to brand names

You need special plasterboard fixings/rawlplugs for that job. They have extra 'wings' ( if that's the right word) that expand outwards on the inside of the wallboard.

            Chicken pellets:roflol:
            Basically manure.

I agree if its hollow behind, you need plaster board fixings and even then dont put anything too heavy on it.

I used some little fixings recently for a large mirror on daughter's wall. I'd assumed it was an exterior wall as it backs onto the landing of her flat, but it's not - it's a plasterboard internal one. They've worked reallly well and come in different sizes etc depending on the weight of the item you're fixing. Even the smallest one takes a really hefty weight.
Only drawback is that you need a spade bit for your drill, so you may need to get one of those if you don't have any.

Can't remember which ones I used, but this is the type
            GripIt Plasterboard fixing (Dia)15mm (L)20mm, Pack of 4 | DIY at B&Q

I've tried most of the toggle types etc over the years and these are brilliant compared to those. The only thing I'd say is - it may depend on the depth of the shelf and what you put on it. The weight of a mirror is carried in a different way from a protruding shelf.
