I'm not really well up one the subject of American politics but I'd like to know what the people really disliked about the Democrats and what the Republicans have said they will alter.

Something that the Democrats was doing, or not doing, has been shown to be not what people want.
For Trump to get a second chance there must be something going really wrong in the eyes of the population.

From the Australian press, not noted for its delicacy.

“He (Trump) remains a despicable and disgusting man who is devoid of integrity or ethical values, is boorish and moronic, and unstable.”

I just with the Aussie media would stop sitting on the fence. They need to say what they mean.

I suspect it is a number of things. The party in power is always viewed through the critical eye of what they have achieved, not what they say they will do next. The Democrats rolled out celebrity endorsements day after day, but, by definition, celebrities are wealthy, entitled, pampered people with no skin in the game as they are not reliant on public services. Those at the top of the Democratic party are seen as a manipulative cabal, run by money for money, whilst spouting all the liberal far-left woke nonsense that has seen society collapse for ordinary folk. It is the two-facedness of it all that people can't stomach.

The Republicians also value money above all else, of course, but don't really hide that. There are fewer political dynasties at the top - no Clintons, Bidens, etc. I don't think voters really believe Trump can do what he says he will. Therefore, they can safely ignore his wilder rhetoric or any part of it they don't support and focus on the bits they want. He can't "solve" inflation as he is not in control of its drivers, but then the Dems can't either.

I spoke to a large group of Americans the other day and they all independently said the same thing about life under the Democrats, everything was just so expensive. The cost of food and gas has crippled average joes finances and it's one of the things the republicans were promising to reduce.

If they think 'gas' prices are crippling in the USA try living in the UK. AAA shows average price per litre as $0.83 or about 64p Sterling. Average price here is about double that.

guess you do not understand. we can provide our own gas. Joe stopped it. So we pay for importing from elsewhere. And that will be stopped with Trump. So our gas will be half price. And we will put some Canadian folks back to work with the pipeline that Joe ended.

All of the U.S. and Canada have suffered under milquetoast "leadership" for years. Our economies although fairly strong are falsely portrayed as us living in the land of milk and honey however for the average person, food is bloody expensive. Because of high demand, rent for a two bedroom apartment in a not so nice building is $2,600 a month. And utilities on top of that!

Democrat (U.S.) and Liberal (Canadian) are considered by many to be the equivalent of the "woke" party. Pandering to celeb opinions and allowing too much cancel culture.

The Americans voted to save their country instead of letting it become a "post national" state with no identity. Good for them!

We in Canada are champing at the bit to get rid of our prime meat head because he is killing our country through bad economics and unsupportable immigration policies. 1 million immigrants were allowed here last year and we have neither the housing nor the health care to support these people. It is a hoax on these souls who come here thinking they'll be handed a house and the only hardship will be having to wear a winter coat. There is nowhere they can afford to stay so they are put up in seedy hotels by the government as a "temporary" measure. We are going to see a surge of asylum seekers coming up over the border but that is our problem. We should have been firm from the beginning.

We have to wait until next year to get rid of Trudeau. We keep hoping an early election will be forced.

I think the inflation thing has been pretty much world wide over the last few years but those that were in power at the time get to take the flak for it.

But I do see where Trump is coming from and how he appeals to the masses, ruining your own economy just to get greenhouse gas emissions down and at the same time importing the stuff from abroad at a higher price is political suicide.
I think Starmer and Miliband need to take heed, crippling your own country just so you can look good at one or two of these COP meetings might work short term, until it starts to bite.

I really don't much care what Americans in the USA do to and for each other but I do worry about the impact of flat earth and isolationist mentalities will have on the global environment in general and geo-politics in particular with regard to the Ukraine and other ex Soviet states on Russia's borders.

i await with interest to see how Trump is going to stop the invasion of cheap goods made in China and sold at below cost to undermine other nations' industry or how he's going to deal with all the storms and flooding and other catastrophes causing havoc in the US.

Personally, I'd rather pay more for fuel, goods and food and know that I live in a society with safety nets such as social security, health care and job security with decent working hours and holidays. US Americans seem to think that all smacks of Communism.

The problem for the US (and UK) is wealth inequality, and no one has any kind of plan to deal with that unfortunately. People need affordable housing, utilities, and food. When those no longer exist for huge numbers, society collapses. No safety net can ever be big enough to pay for the basic needs of citizens when the group needing the help is expanding so rapidly.
