It's new oven day!! They're here now.
And Amazon are giving me a refund. Apparently, I should have been informed that they were awaiting a new delivery of bulbs, which is why delivery is 10 days late. So my lovely friend will get two secret santas.
You all sound far more industrious than I am... I blame the weather!
Phew, oven in and working. I look forward to cooking a roast without the oven switching itself off every time I open the door.

      Good afternoon all,

A slightly warmer day today and a little bit of sunshine now and again, though the clouds are rolling in now.

It was the church Christmas fayre today and it was very busy. I think we will have done very well with our fund raising I know we raised a fair amount on the raffle alone (£250) and other stalls and the tombola were busy, too.

I should hear how much we raised later today.

Only one fly in the ointment today - one of the raffle prizes and 4 tombola prizes were lifted off the tables by some very light fingered individual. I suspect the raffle prize was taken when we were calling out the numbers so our attention was off the table at that time. You really wouldn’t credit it, would you, stealing items inside a church, and which were gifted to help for fundraising for air ambulance and the local food bank? Luckily, we had a spare prize that I was quickly able to substitute the stolen one with.

Good to hear you are getting a refund @Penny_Forthem.

Quite an eventful trip this side of the channel @Busy-Lizzie. You will have been relieved to reach your cottage.

I can’t believe that happened @Blue arbour - disgusting behaviour. Well done on what you managed to raise though.

I hope the new oven hosts many a delicious meal @Penny_Forthem.

I hope the market was enjoyable @Obelix-Vendée and you found some tartiflette, and maybe something warm and mulled?

The curtains on open cupboards would help air flow @Goldenlily26, but until the root cause is solved, it may just waft damp and mold into your kitchen.

Your journey sounds horrible @Busy-Lizzie, but home with the fires on sounds better.

I didn’t manage to buy my puzzle book, so I’ll try in town in the week. Just flopping down with some tea and shortbread now and I’ll look up a recipe for a curry for tonight.

@Blue arbour some people are the lowest of the low. Fantastic result though.
Not only is the oven working (why did I worry it wouldn't fit?) but we went to Aldiddly dee to get one of their look alike le creuset casseroles in blue. Hub has made pork goulash from the Ginger pig cook book. It smells divine.
          Enjoy your curry @AuntyRach
          Glad you're home @Busy-Lizzie
Hope @Obelix-Vendée has enjoyed the fair and tartiflette.

No tartiflette! Only one place doing it and they hadn't started cooking it by the time we'd done the tour of all the stalls and they wanted 16€50 a kilo which I thought was expensive for what is essentially sliced potatoes, bacon bits and cheese with some white wine and onions if they do it right.

The market was busy but nowhere near as good as when we went pre-Covid. Now it's all food - charcuterie, pâtes, cheeses, terrines, chocolates, pastries, preserves - tat and some home-made/artisanal candles, embroidery, jewellery, bags, scarves and so on and none of it very interesting except for the stall selling prunes dipped in dark chocolate which I shall try at home and another stall selling some good spice mixes. I now have a large packet of Za'atar.

I also found some huge banana shallots being sold by a woman who couldn't divide 6 by 4. Nor could the woman buying ordinary shallots. I gave them the answer. Having helped them out and then bought a kilo of shallots I was given some "grey" shallots to try. I shall plant them instead.

We came home, glad we'd gone but not bothering again, and now I'm baking sausages and a fartichoke gratin with a shallot gravy and some caramelised Savoy cabbage wedges.

Glad your new oven is in and working @Penny_Forthem. i use mine a lot but don't get on with Le Creuset - too heavy and the enamel wears off after a few years so I stick with Inox.

            Enjoy your curry @AuntyRach.

Utterly shameless @Blue arbour. I hope the funds raised were enough to make up for your understandable disappointment at such behaviour.

              Evening everyone.
I’m pleased to report that we made just over £700, so despite the light fingered incident, we did extremely well :).
Your pork goulash sounds delicious @Penny_Forthem. Glad your oven is working well, and that you’re pleased with your Le Creuset substitute .

Goodness me @Goldenlily26, that Covenant is a pain with all the red tape your club is having to sift through. I do hope eventually you can get something sorted. As you hint, the precedent seems to have been set.
@Busy-Lizzie what a total nightmare for you - that journey home. Hope it doesn't take you too long to catch up with a restful sleep.
@Obelix-Vendée, tartiflette is one of my favourites.

@Blue arbour, that is the lowest of the low - stealing from a Church function. It is our Christmas Fayre a week tomorrow I will be eagle-eyed just in case. Well done to everyone for the excellent amount of money raised.

Isn’t it such a shame though, that we have to think like this @Ladybird4? Next time, we will make sure that the table with the prizes remains manned at all times. We’ve never had this happen before - so very sad. :frown:

I have to say that I feel saddened by such behaviour but that the saddest thing of all is that they felt it necessary to take these things.

White rabbits everyone and a pinch and a punch for the first of the month. Smile, its only 20 days until the daylight begins to get longer. Well its raining here this morning so no change there then. I finished knitting the baby blanket I've been working on last night so need another project to work on. Hope you all have joyous days.

Have you had an inaugural bake in your new oven as well as cooking on the top @Penny_Forthem? I might have said this before but I have been toying with the idea of a new oven myself. I have a dual fuel cooker - gas hob, electric oven, but since I got my plug in induction hob I've never used the gas hob. I would like an electric oven with a four spot/area/ring (what on earth do you call the cooking areas on an induction hob?) hob. I think AO do a disconnect service so they would probably be the company I buy from.

                                Morning all.

I don't like induction hobs. I've never had one but Daughter 2 and Son 2 both have and I've cooked on them both. I found them unresponsive, seemed my finger didn't work when touching the controls, and I like to see flames or a red glow.

I have a real Le Creuset casserole dish in France and an imitation one in Norfolk. I can't tell the difference, apart from price, though Daughter 2 used to live near the Le Creuset factory and there was a sale every year so she got them cheap.

Hello @redstar, good to hear you are still alive! Good luck with the next operation.

I think we are going to a Christmas Fair in a nearby French village today.
